Courtyard Montpellier

As part of a business trip to the Occitan metropolis, I stayed in the only Marriott option available, the Courtyard Montpellier.

A look back at this disappointing stay, and a reminder of the itinerary taken:

Today’s itinerary

Booking

I proceeded to book this hotel via the Marriott Bonvoy app, using my business’ corporate code. For a little more than 120€ a night, this will be the entry level room.

Arrival

I arrived at the hotel at the end of the evening from the horrible Montpellier Sud-de-France train station, not even served by the streetcar. How can anyone have such stupid ideas as building a station without multimodal connections these days?

30 minutes later and after nearly 40€ spent in Uber, I arrive at the hotel shortly before midnight.

The welcome is rather cold, I do not feel welcomed as an Ambassador member. My credit card is imprinted and I am given a standard letter to all Platinum members. I will choose the points as a welcome gift.

Room

The room was located on the first floor of the property.

I wasn’t upgraded (despite the fact that it did not seem to be very crowded), so I slept in a standard room.

The coffee machine is of good quality
A kettle and two cups are at the disposal of the customers
Bathrobes and slippers are available in the closet
A safe and a minibar are installed

The entrance leads, on the right, to a rather ordinary bathroom, even if the shower is quite pleasant. As with all Courtyard hotels, the toiletries are of poor quality.

The washbasin, dressed with the mediocre products found at Courtyard
The shower is rather nice
The toilet is located in the bathroom

The bed is quite hard, not very comfortable. But at least there is a large desk to work on. And a space to relax by the patio door, which leads to a shared garden.

The workspace faces the bed
The bed is quite hard

The whole thing has a bit of a past feel, even though the hotel isn’t even ten years old.

The terrace located in front of each room on the first floor

Finally, the virtual visit in video:

Hotel facilities

The hotel has an outdoor pool and a fitness room that I will not use.

The pool is very pleasant in summer
The equipment of the gym is quite comprehensive (but old)
The gym, which I did not use this time

Food options

The hotel has a decent quality restaurant that I’ve had lunch in before, but I won’t be using the food services this time.

Departure

The departure formalities will be simple, but carried out without much passion.

Bottom line

I had kept the same mixed memory of this hotel: a modern building in a beautiful location, but a mediocre decoration and especially a really unmotivated staff. It’s a pity.
