Review : AC Hotel Valencia Colón

As part of a weekend that should have taken place between TravelGuys, I stayed at the AC Valencia Colon, a property located in the center of the Spanish metropolis.

Here is the route followed:

A look back at this uneventful stay.

Booking

I booked this property with Bertrand as part of a TravelGuys trip to Valencia.

We chose this AC hotel because we had already tried the other hotels in the city: the Westin Valencia – a very nice property, the AC Valencia – a bit far away, and the Hospes Del Mar, a Design Hotel a bit disappointing.

For a little over 100€ a night, we choose this property to try it out, and proceed with the reservation on the Marriott Bonvoy app.

Arrival

I arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon on Friday by taking the metro from the airport. Bertrand having had a last minute professional constraint, it is thus alone that I arrive at the hotel.

The architecture of the hotel is quite ordinary (rooms seen from the terrace)

The property is located in one of the most commercial streets of the city, and finding its entrance requires attention. An elevator takes guests to the reception located on the first floor of the hotel.

I am taken care of quickly. I will not be upgraded. As in all AC hotels, breakfast is not included even with the Platinum benefit and more, just a discount of 8€ on its price. I choose this benefit, always better than a paltry number of points.

Room

My room was located on the 5th floor of the hotel. The corridors are quite small, narrow and dark. Note the low number of rooms per floor, the property is small.

Add some light, please!

The room is also quite small, although the entrance is quite large. A desk is available, although it is quite small.

The entrance to the room is quite spacious… But has no closet!
An espresso machine is placed on the desk

A balcony provides a (limited) view of the terrace bar which also serves as a breakfast room.

View on the terrace from my balcony

The king size bed is not necessarily very comfortable, but I will still fall asleep because of the rather long drive to Valencia.

The bed was a little too hard for my taste

The bathroom is quite basic, and does not have the traditional codes of the AC hotels… In short, it could have been a Meliã or a NH…

The decoration of the bathroom is without great charm or particularity (but clean)
The shower, with too little pressure

To finish, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room located in the basement of the property. I will use it once during my stay.

A bit of a bumpy ride to the fitness room
Bumpy, but guided!

Given the size of the hotel, its size is appropriate.

Two bikes, no less!
A single treadmill… Let’s hope that the American clientele does not invade the hotel!

Food options

The property does not have a restaurant as such, but the breakfast room and the terrace serve as a bar in the evening. I will not visit the bar, besides it will remain quite empty, but I will have my breakfast there on Saturday morning.

The breakfast room is however quite large
It even seems oversized for the size of the hotel

Attendance was limited and even at the end of the buffet, it was well stocked.

The buffet is rather correct
The breads are of rather average quality
We particularly appreciate the smoked salmon
The hot offer is a little less well stocked
The coffee machine and cups are installed on the bar

I dragged my breakfast out long, on this sunny terrace for a month of March!

The size of the terrace is impressive
What better way to start a day in March than with bright sunshine?
What could be better than having breakfast in the sun?
Perfect place for a late night drink

Departure

The departure formalities were simple, I left very early because my flight was at 6am.

Bottom line

A simple stay in a central hotel, superbly located in the heart of Valencia. It will have this advantage over the previously visited AC Valencia. The terrace is a great plus.
