Moxy London ExCel: basic but effective

As part of a business trip to the British capital, I decided to book in this hotel near the ExCel conference center. My driver: the rate! And for a more than honorable experience…

Booking

I proceeded to book this hotel through the Marriott app, using my business’ corporate code. The proposed rate was very competitive, less than £60 per night, a bargain!

I love staying in this neighborhood. Some may say it’s far from central London, but I love taking the DLR and having my view of the LCY runways. And there, I was not disappointed, look instead :

Arrival

Two days before my arrival,I check in via the Marriott app. I arrive at the reception where the check-in is done in the blink of an eye. No upgrade: normal, all rooms are identical!

Room

My room was located on the 6th and last floor of the hotel. Like all the rooms, it is small and basic.

The entrance leads directly to the bedroom. No closets, as is the trend now. The bed is large and very comfortable.

The desk is replaced by a glass shelf and a beanbag chair, not very convenient though.

The bathroom is small but functional. Above all, the water pressure is excellent and the toiletries, although supplied in large bottles, are of very good quality.

Basically, the job is done… Visit in video:

Restaurants

I didn’t actually test the hotel’s restaurant. The bar area is very good, the bartenders/receptionists are quite generous and the prices low.

On the other hand, my colleagues who tried the breakfast found it awful.

Hotel facilities

Here’s the rub: Unlike its London Heathrow sibling, this hotel does not have a gym. Big mistake for the young business clientele for whom it is a must nowadays.

Departure

Very simple departure formalities thanks to the Mobile check-out. No brainer.

Bottom line

A solid hotel with minimal but good quality services. Those who want a little more service and facilities can go to the ALoft London ExCel next door.
