Four Points Catania : a simple pleasure in Sicily

There are places we like to return to regularly and the Four Points Catania (in Catania, Sicily) is one of them. Whether it is in summer for vacations or in winter, a weekend or a week to take your mind off the cold and grey of Paris, it is always a nice and affordable solution.

Why is the Four Points Catania such a good deal?

The Four Points Catania is a former Sheraton that over time has been “downgraded” to Four Points, the sub-brand of Sheraton. Why ? We can only guess, but on the one hand age was beginning to take its toll and on the other hand, in a Sicilian economy that is what it is, it seemed perhaps more judicious to give the hotel a lick of paint and change the sign than to transform it from top to bottom. It gives it a little old-fashioned charm which, I think, is not without displeasure.

The result of all this (local context + downgrading): more than affordable prices. We manage to have rooms at 50 euros or less in winter and less than 100 euros in summer. Add to that the upgrades for members of the in-house loyalty program, it doesn’t cost much per square meter of room. And if I don’t need to tell you about the Sicilian climate in summer, the temperatures are around 20° with a big blue sky in winter which makes it, for us, a destination of choice to cheer up between January and March.

The Four Points Catania: away from the center, in front of the sea

The hotel is a bit far from the city center, you will have to take a coastal street/road to get there (the hotel has a shuttle from the center). But the effort is rewarded by a direct and clear view of the sea.

On arrival, it doesn’t look like much (see above).

The interior and the lobby are in the same vein.

The welcome is always very friendly and the loyalty program strictly applied. Given the number of customers, the elite customers of the SPG loyalty program are sure to get their upgrade in winter and…often in summer.

During our last stay we learned that the hotel had just been renovated. We were wondering how modest and unsurprising the work was: I didn’t see anything changed in the common areas and at most we can say that the rooms have been refreshed.

Refreshed, simple and unpretentious rooms

So for the price of a standard room (already very good) around 50 euros we were upgraded to two large suites.

Neither flashy nor luxurious but clean and simple.

For me:

A large and bright living room with a nice office space.

A less well exposed room with, unfortunately, two single beds.

And a very decent sized bathroom with massage bathtub.

Different colors and better view and nice terrace for Olivier.

A quality catering

The hotel has a bar and a restaurant.

Four points Catane

As quick as we are to criticize hotel bars in general, we really liked the one at Four Points Catania. A staff that loves its job, cocktails made meticulously, very correct doses and with a smile.

As for the restaurant, it honors the Italian cuisine with unbeatable prices.

The breakfast buffet is simple but complete and of high quality. Served in a room surrounded by bay windows facing the sea that puts you in a good mood early in the morning.

Swimming pool, fitness and spa

The Four Points Catania has a beautiful swimming pool that must be very pleasant in summer but that in January you can only touch with your eyes.

The fitness room is more than large enough for the size and traffic of the hotel. Not very well equipped  but like the rest of the property “it does the job”.

Gym - Four points Catane

As for the spa, we have never tried it.

Conclusion: the Four Points Catania, a simple pleasure

Don’t look here for the ultimate in luxury or anything premium. We love the Four Points Catania for its simplicity, its sincere promise without overselling, its unbeatable rates and its year-round sunshine. A property with which we want to be benevolent because it returns to us well.

– Hotel: off-center, just refreshed, lost between two ages. But we like it like that and that’s its charm. 8

– Check-in/out: smooth, efficient, friendly and with a smile. 10

– Room: simple, clean and large. Even without upgrade for the price we are happy. That said one likes the style or not. 9

– Restaurant/Bar: good, copious, effective and not expensive, it is the Four Points that we prefer. 10

– Facilities: nice pool, gym that does the job without more, spa not tested. 9

– Service and attention: nothing to complain about. 10

– Experience for money. At 50 euros a night it is worth a 10.

PS: To find the sun at discounted prices compared to summer but in another range of property and price anyway, we also like the Castillo Son Vida in Palma de Mallorca.
