Now it’s time to head home after an excellent weekend in Belgium.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary:
# | Type | Review |
---|---|---|
1 | Train | Thalys Confort, Paris Gare du Nord – Brussels Midi (not reviewed) |
2 | Hotel | Renaissance Brussels – Junior Suite |
3 | Train | Thalys Confort, Brussels Midi – Paris Gare du Nord |
The Comfort class is the new intermediate class introduced by Thalys in its new fare range.
The Comfort 2 class of the previous range remains unchanged, but Comfort 1 has been subdivided into Premium, with maximum flexibility and on-board snacks, and Comfort, with the same seats but no snacks. For €48 one way, it was Comfort class (Premium class is no longer available in the post-COVID context, where no services are provided).
Boarding
We arrive at Bruxelles-Midi station from Bruxelles-Luxembourg station, located 20 minutes from the Midi station and accessible by commuter or IC trains. No access to the Thalys lounge in Comfort class.
Thalys tickets allow free pre-carriage from all stations in the Brussels zone.
Our train boards on track 3, and boarding is possible just over 30 minutes before departure.
An initial underground check verifies passenger eligibility and directs them to one of the escalators.
Upstairs, tickets are formally checked by scan. So we’re directed to our car, car 3.
Cabin and welcome
The Thalys cabin looks good, with pleasant colors and high-quality, comfortable seats.
Not much to say, apart from the very low occupancy (around 30%), in contrast to the outward journey (full train).
Service and catering
There’s no service, so not much to say. We’ll make do with our bottle of water and a banana bought in a supermarket near our hotel.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrive at Gare du Nord on time, after a 1h22 journey, and jump into an Uber that will take us home.
Bottom line
It’s a fast, easy route that makes you want to go to Brussels more often!
