Review : Grand Hotel de la Ville, Parma

To extend a weekend in Bologna with my girlfriend, I accompany her to Parma for a few days on a business trip. I stay with her in one of the hotels used by her business near their headquarters.

Booking

Not really applicable here, the reservation was made by my partner. The corporate rate is around 120 € per night, and the double room supplement is 40 €, breakfast included.

Arrival

We arrived at the hotel in the late morning, and were taken care of immediately. Our room was ready. Billing is done directly through my companion’s business, no credit card required.

The lobby with its strange furniture, and always empty

The staff is extremely helpful, and stable, and my companion is received royally. It is finally the keystone of the Hospitality Business.

The bar is rather staffed in the evening

Room

The rooms are almost all identical at the Grand Hotel de la Ville. Ours was located on the 2nd floor of the newly renovated property.

The corridors have been renovated with darker wood tones.

The dark tones of the corridors give a luxurious look to the hotel

The room itself is elegant, the bed very large. Large windows offer a view of the nearby Barilla research center.

The entrance is rather spacious
The dark paint on the walls is a success
The view from the rooms is relatively peaceful

The desk occupies the whole wall facing the bed, but we regret the absence of a real seat to work.

The long desk for working, even if the footstool does not make the task very pleasant

The bathroom is partially renovated, and it shows. The shower is new but the rest is very eighties. Ortigia’s toiletries are very qualitative and smell very good.

The bath is relatively new

To finish, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room that I would not have the opportunity to visit.

Catering

We will not have dinner at the hotel restaurant but we will have breakfast in the morning.

Breakfast is served in the property’s only restaurant.

The restaurant is often deserted

A buffet of hot and cold items is available.

The coffee offer is… Lousy for a hotel located in Italy
The juice offer is rather qualitative
The sweet offer is very appetizing
This area is less appetizing
The fruits are very ripe

Smoked salmon is available upon request.

The cured ham looks a little too red to be local…
The cheeses are very qualitative for Italy

The scrambled eggs are excellent, a little creamy.

The famous Parma scrambled eggs, so recommended by my wife!

The service is almost non-existent, not even for a coffee. What a shame for a 5 star property!

Departure

The departure formalities were simple, I paid the double room part before climbing into a cab.

Bottom line

A solid property, but a 5 star without frills.
