Red Bull likes to communicate on the basis of thrills and has taken the slogan “Red Bull gives wings” literally.

Owner of the eponymous Formula 1 team, the brand has indeed imposed a challenge to the team: make a pit stop in 20 seconds. Idiot when you know that it takes 2 seconds in general? No, when the idea is to make this stop in weightlessness.

For this Red Bull has collaborated with the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

The operation did not take place in space but during hyperbolic flights (or Zero-G flights for zero gravity) on board an Ilyushin Il-76 MDK.

During such a flight, the plane follows sequences where it climbs at 45° then falls at 45° also to produce a weightlessness time of 22 seconds before climbing again and so on.

Knowing that before the return to normal gravity it was necessary to secure tires, car and tools to avoid an accident, it was not possible to carry out this pit stop in only one catch thus the video which you are going to see is an assembly of several sequences put end to end.

Real mechanics from the Red Bull Formula 1 team took on this challenge. It took them several flights to get used to the weightlessness and to be able to keep their lucidity. Nothing surprising when you know that the nickname of the device is “the vomit comet“.

Last detail it is not a current Formula 1 but a model of the 2005 season, the current model being too big to fit in the plane.
