Memories of Kai Tak

Kai Tak is the former airport of Hong Kong, closed in 1998 and replaced by Chek Lap Kok.

It was famous because its location in the middle of the city forced the planes to descend in the middle of the towers, at the level of the buildings and to finish by a very tight turn over the houses to avoid a mountain and find the runway.

It offered exceptional experiences and images for the passengers on the window side as well as for the spotters in the surroundings and remains a legend for those who had the chance to land there as well as for those who will never have this possibility.

Kai Tak is to airports what the Boeing 747 and the Concorde are to airplanes.

Unfortunately, at the time, passengers and pilots did not have the same means to make beautiful videos as anyone today.

However, this week we offer you an approach on Kai Tak in the cockpit, a best of of landings and a video that explains you why Kai Tak was so special.

Not to be missed under any circumstances.
