For a friend’s wedding in Luxembourg, I stayed at the Meliã Luxembourg, a property located in the modern district of the Luxembourg capital. Besides the fact that it was recommended to me by the groom, this hotel is perfectly located, 10 minutes from the airport, downtown and the wedding venue. A look back at this almost perfect stay.
Booking
As the hotel is not part of the chains in which I usually book, I go looking for my old Meliã Rewards number in my emails, which I manage to find. And miracle: everything is still there, with my old details of course, but it’s not bad. After updating my personal information, I booked my stay through the hotel’s website, which was quite well done. The corporate code of my business allows me to benefit from substantial discounts, and I opt for a package including breakfast, for less than 120€ per night.
Arrival
I arrive at the hotel from the airport by taking the shuttle bus, which runs every 15 minutes to and from the city center. The nearest stop is a 10-minute walk from the property, but the route is not necessarily obvious, especially the final part where many steps await you to reach the hotel from the esplanade of the museum of contemporary art.
From the esplanade, take an elevator down to the hotel reception.
I am immediately taken care of by a receptionist. Unfortunately, it is still early and no room is ready. My luggage is handled and I am told that it will be placed in my room as soon as it is ready. The arrival formalities (quite complex considering the Luxembourg law) are done immediately. The clerk addressed me by my last name systematically, very good point!
Back at the hotel, I go back to the reception to get my key. The front desk manager is present and tells me that he has upgraded me to TheLevel room, the equivalent of an executive room, apologizing for the wait, and that my luggage is already waiting for me there. Excellent !
Room
The room was located on the 7th floor of the property and offered a superb view of the city of Luxembourg with lush vegetation.
The entrance leads immediately to the sleeping area, equipped with a king size bed, a spacious desk and a courtesy tray with espresso machine.
Thebathroom is rather simplistic, with a single sink, the toilet and a bathtub.
As I said, the view is magnificent.
To finish, a visit in video:
Hotel facilities
Unfortunately, the property does not have a pool. However, it is equipped with afitness room (unfortunately blind), as well as a sauna and a steam room.
Restaurants
I only enjoyed the breakfast service, served between 7am and 11am on weekends. And there, it is the cold shower: hardly friendly service, very low quality of the dishes… In short, nothing memorable!
Departure
The departure formalities were simple but warm. We were granted a late check-out until 2pm for 10€, which I accepted considering the very low price… This is a good point that all hotels should consider.
Bottom line
A very pleasant stay, in a more than promising property. Too bad the catering wasn’t up to par. It’s a shame though when everything else is there.
