Our selection of the air travel April Fools of 2017

April 1st has just passed and we could have written a lot of things. We could have announced the appointment of Carlos Ghosn as president of Air France, that you could earn qualifying miles on Flying Blue by flying Transavia, that a new supersonic aircraft was coming to the market in 2018… But as airlines have been quite creative here is a quick overview of what you may have missed.

Transavia’s connected luggage

Transavia plays it innovative with Carrie, the connected suitcase that follows you everywhere.

It’s nice, geeky but not original. For years now, we’ve been seeing ads for similar prototypes without really knowing if it will ever reach the market and, above all, if it will really keep its promise.

Qatar Airways’ private economy class

At Qatar, we offer you a truly private economy cabin since it contains only one seat, yours.

Nice but it would have looked better with another seat. Unless there are budgetary constraints on April Fools’ Day in Doha?

A swimming pool in the Emirates A380

Emirates is announcing the arrival of a 3-deck “full service” A380, with pools, green spaces and swimming pools.

Not bad at all except that it already existed in 1981 on a 747…at least in the imagination of the writers of “Pétrole Pétrole”. In addition they had planned the tennis court and the carpets which were automatically oriented towards Mecca. But at least the concept remains Emirati.

#slipisintheair : The Air France underwear to travel by plane and win a free flight

This is not a campaign of an airline but of the Slip Français, which proposes a comfortable Air France underwear dedicated to the air travel.

Starting in June, all you have to do is present your underwear at the boarding gate to get a free flight. And in terms of creativity, it’s really the campaign that caught our eye the most.

Let’s hope that in 2018 the best air fish comes from the airline world. See you next year!
