Residents of 6 countries no longer need a visa to visit China

From now on, nationals of 5 European countries and Malaysia will be able to benefit from a free 15-day visa to visit China.

Until now, entering China wasn’t impossible, but it was subject to a number of restrictions and the need to obtain a visa. The procedure was fairly complex and, what’s more, very expensive (€126).

The only exceptions are stays of less than 90 days in Hong Kong and the famous 144-hour transit visa.

The latter, which we used on several occasions, allows you to stop in certain cities for up to 144 hours, provided you have a connecting flight. It was subject to numerous restrictions, including not leaving a certain geographical area, and while we never had any problems obtaining it, stories of passengers being turned back for no reason at the Chinese border are numerous.

Good news: China has just announced a free visa program for nationals of 5 European countries (France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain) and Malaysia. They will benefit from a 15-day visa.

This visa is valid for tourism, transit and business travel.

Please note: this program is limited in time, from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024.

At this stage, we don’t know whether this is an experiment that could be extended, or whether the list will be extended.

That’s all we know at this stage, but it’s excellent news.
