As part of a last-minute business trip to the French Riviera, I stayed at one of Cannes’ palaces, the Majestic Barrière, opposite the Palais des Festivals.

A look back at this excellent stay.

Booking

As I had to book a few days before my arrival, I looked directly at the Barrière website. Not a room for less than 350€ a night. Booking was much cheaper this time, at €270 per night with at and partial sea view.

So I booked 3 rooms and one night.

Arrival

We arrive at the hotel in the early afternoon with our transfer from Nice airport.

We are greeted by the doorman who directs us to reception, and check-in to our three rooms, side by side, with sea views.

The whole thing was done quickly, and with credit card imprinting.

During our check-in, the employee who had booked our meeting room came to greet us and take us to the room.

We then settle into our room.

Room

Our rooms were located on the 5th floor of the property.

As soon as you enter, on the left, you’ll find the bathroom, with two basins (surprising for a standard room), and a bathtub. The toilet is separated from the main bathroom by a door.

The toiletries are branded Barrière and of very high quality. Note the Marvin mouthwash, very fancy.

A corridor then leads to the bedroom, where there’s a desk on the left, and a full-size minibar, topped by a large TV.

On the right, the king-size bed is a good size and very comfortable (I’ll have a great night).

The closets are very spacious, making it possible to set up for a few days.

Towards the French window are two armchairs and a coffee table. The window looks out over the pool rather than the sea, although you can see it if you turn your head to the left.

All in all, quite excellent for a standard room!

Hotel facilities

The Majestic is a 5-star hotel. It has a fitness room, but I won’t be visiting it.

It has a lovely heated pool, located near the restaurant, and a spa that I won’t be using either.

Food options

The hotel has two bars and two restaurants.

We’ll have lunch at Fouquet’s bar by the pool, an excellent salmon club sandwich with a glass of wine.

We’ll have a drink at the indoor bar before dinner at Fouquet’s. The service is average and the food good, but rather unremarkable.

We’ll have breakfast by the pool: no more buffet, but everything can be ordered à la carte. And it was excellent.

Departure

Check-out formalities were simplicity itself: just drop off the room key and the invoice is printed.

Bottom line

An excellent stay. Of course it was expensive, but it was still a fraction of the normal price.
