Review : Hotel Link124, Parma

Just after a restful night at the Grand Hotel of the City of Parma, I arrive in the middle of the morning at the Link124 hotel located a little outside the city.

Booking

The reservation was made online a few months before the stay. Due to a business and trade show, the prices were unusually high for this property, nearly $400 per night.Shortly before our arrival, my wife called the hotel to have my name added to the reservation and make sure I could check-in without her.

Arrival

I arrived just before noon at the hotel. The property is located about 30 minutes walk from the train station and about 45 minutes from the city center. It is therefore not the best option for sightseeing in the city of Parma. I was taken care of immediately by the receptionist upon my arrival, who was well aware of my situation. She immediately informs me that we have been upgraded to one of the two suites in the property, located on the top floor.

It is a good idea to remind the schedules of the different services of the property in the elevator

The hotel is not part of any particular chain, so I assume it was the very high rate that caused the upgrade.

Room

The assigned suite was very spacious.

From the entrance, a first bathroom is accessible, and is equipped with a shower.

The first bathroom is very complete
The shower in the additional bathroom is quite spacious

Then comes the main room with a relaxation area equipped with a sofa, and a dining area. No desk is proposed.

This space really invites you to relax, even if the purple color is not the happiest
In the first room of the suite, we would have preferred a desk to this massive buffet under the television

The night space is then totally separated from the first room by a sliding door.

A king size bed is offered, and a semi-open bathroom with a large bathtub that is separated from the sleeping area only by a glass window.

The television in the night area is much smaller
The king size bed, moderately comfortable
The open bathtub, real selling point of the suite

The other part of the bathroom (containing the toilet) is well separated by a door.

The washroom sink is quite small
Everything is there however, even a bidet, essential in Italy!

In the end, a beautiful space to rest, but with a rather basic contemporary decoration.

Finally, the video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel highlights its gym and spa.

Access to the spa is through the basement

How to say… The gym must be the size of a bedroom, as you can see…

The fitness room is microscopic in size

And the spa is out of order (it was only open for a very short time anyway).

The spa is out of order… And we discover it in front of the door!

Catering

I did not test the restaurant at lunch or in the evening. But the hotel has within its walls (not in the main building but in an annex on the other side of the parking lot) a Michelin-starred restaurant (very expensive, even for lunch).

On the other hand, I tested the breakfast, and it is really not brilliant… The coffee comes out… of an instant machine! What an offense!

The breakfast room is not located within the hotel’s restaurant
What a shame, in Italy, to offer instant coffee as a breakfast drink… And the industrial juices to vomit
The gluten-free zone also offers only industrial products
A few cold options that are not very nice

The food is really not appetizing, and has an overall industrial look. So I stayed frugal.

The appearance of the dishes offered at the buffet invites frugality, as here the bacon and sausages made available for a few hours already
I can’t imagine what those eggs looked like before they ended up on the buffet.
The most appetizing part of the breakfast options, but again highly industrial
Surprising that no one has started to eat this pie at the end of the breakfast slot.
The fruit part is also rather ordinary, we regret the absence of prepared and cut fruits

Bottom line

A mixed stay. While the suite was very nice, the rest of the hotel’s facilities are very basic. A real disappointment.
