After 5 months of intense work, I decided to offer myself a few days of vacation in the sunbefore the summer which is going to be busy for me. To do this, what better than a beach destination? I thus set my sights on Mauritius, a French-speaking island, and above all very well served from Paris with perfect schedules on Air France.
3 SPG options are open to me: Le Méridien, the Westin and the St. Regisfhe former being the only one offering affordable rates.
Booking
As usual, I booked my room on the SPG website to ensure the best treatment by the hotel, due to my Platinum status in the chain. The rate is still quite high.
By conscience, I check the rate on comparators and there, surprise, half-board and suite rates come out cheaper than my rate for a standard room.
I decided to use my Best Rate Guarantee on ahalf-board Family Suite rate.
BRG accepted and I still get20% off the best rate found in the comparator. Excellent !
Arrival
I arrive by car from the international airport. The hotel is really isolated and a GPS is in my opinion necessary.
As soon as I arrived, a porter came to take care of my luggage.
Check-in is done at the bar, totally seated. The receptionist takes care of the formalities while I sip an excellent welcome punch.
Let us note here that the property seems very familiar with thevouchers of the Tour Operators and the fact of having a “direct” customer is rather rare. I have the right to all the honors, and afinal upgrade in one of the 4 royal suites of the property, the highest level possible… Scored !
At no time was my credit card claimed as a guarantee. This is a great sign of trust that should be applied to all properties for such loyal customers.
Room
My room was located on the top floor of the property, a bit away from the reception area, towards the adult area.
The suite was truly large and opened through a double door into a large entryway with an extra bed.
This entrance leads to a large living and dining room, as well as a bar (whose usefulness is questionable) and especially a huge bay window overlooking a balcony with a view of the sea. Dazzling!
The room is located on the mezzanine floor to which the interior staircase leads.
A king size bed (not a very comfortable mattress) sits in this room with a desk and plenty of storage space.
This room also has a Jacuzzi as well as the well maintained main bathroom.
Note that the mezzanine remains open and therefore not very practical if you travel with children.
Finally, a virtual tour of this royal suite:
Hotel facilities
Being a resort, the hotel’s facilities are quite substantial. It has two large pools: one for families, the other for adults. This ensures the tranquility of the premises for singles or honeymooners.
The hotel also has a beach that is almost a kilometer long and where it is possible to get drinks and snacks.
Water sports are of course possible and free.
A diving club is present on site and offers first dives and individual dives at rather high prices for Mauritius.
Restaurants
Here too, because it is a resort, the catering is very diversified in the hotel. 4 restaurants offer their services to residents.
The main restaurant, 180 Degrees, is located next to the hotel lobby. It offers a breakfast buffet for all residents, as well as a themed buffet each evening.
There is another buffet, this one indian, located below the reception in the restaurant Cumin. The food is of high quality but the buffet is not varied enough. Traditionally frequented by Indian customers, the chef of the restaurant came to greet me and ask about my satisfaction.
The third restaurant, Shells, is located right on the beach. Despite its à la carte menu, it remains accessible in half-board with table service, excellent point. The service is also very attentive in this restaurant, and the staff is adorable for those who wish to change dishes from the imposed menu.
The last restaurant, La Faya, also located on the beach, is located on the opposite side of the complex, in the area reserved for adults. It is reserved for adults for breakfast and dinner.
The offer is therefore very diverse and I was able to try all the restaurants, all of good quality. The service is good, without being exceptional.
Departure
The departure formalities were quick. I was able to confirm a Late Check-out until 6pm the night before, despite the fact that the hotel is a resort.
At the time of departure, no worries about the invoice, and the formalities were done very quickly.
Conclusion
An excellent resort with a beautiful beach and good service. The rooms deserve a good renovation to be at the best level of the brand.
