Last Friday, December 2, the first Boeing 787 in the Air France fleet landed for the very first time at Roissy Charles de Gaulle. This was an opportunity for the airline to present the aircraft to an audience of guests before it enters commercial service.
Now that the “ground” presentations have taken place, many are wondering when and how they will be able to experience the Dreamliner in the air.
Air France 787 to debut on Cairo and Montreal
The Air France 787 will begin its commercial career on January 9 with service to Cairo. A second aircraft, soon to be delivered, will be assigned to the Montreal service in May.
It can be a bit complicated and long for those who have neither the time nor the budget nor even the will to afford such a long flight to discover a new aircraft.
Don’t worry, Air France has thought of you.
Four discovery loops organized on January 7 and 8
Following the example of the exit of the fleet of Boeing 747s, Air France is proposing loops around France on January 7 and 8 to fly aboard the Dreamliner on short flights and affordable budgets.
These tickets are on sale since a week on a dedicated website.
Four routes lasting about 2h30 are proposed.
The fares are :
Economy: 249 €
Premium Economy : 349 €
Business : 787 €
Note the funny fare on the Business rate. In due course, we will suggest to Air France fares at €350 in business for the future introduction of the Airbus A350.
The good news is that there are still a few seats left (in total at the time of writing). But don’t dream, you have no hope of getting a window seat.
The best deal: the weekend in London on a 787
In order to “rough out” the aircraft and train crews, the 787 will also be used on the Paris-London route until October.
Economy fares are very attractive on this route, which is subject to competition from the Eurostar.
So you can make a round trip in Economy for less than 100 euros in a 787 and spend a weekend in London.
Let’s also look at what it looks like in business. Because of Eurostar, this booking class is also more competitive to London than to many medium-haul destinations.
383 euros for a Paris-London business flight on a Boeing 787
With a fare of €383 return in business (and the associated mileage earnings for Flying Blue members), it’s worth taking advantage of the London flight to discover the 787. Regardless of the class of travel, this temporary assignment of the Dreamliner to this route is by far the best possible option for passengers.
It would also seem that the second 787, the one from Montreal, could be temporarily used on the Paris-Lyon route. Case to be followed.
And you, how do you plan to discover the 787?
