Review : W Bali, Marvelous Villa

The W Bali is not strictly speaking a discovery since I had already made a long review last year. I went back there recently and took the opportunity to try out one of their villas which is, in fact, the only point of novelty on which I will dwell here.

Booking

As usual I booked through the Marriott app to make sure I was guaranteed the best price.

Location of W Bali

W Bali is located in Seminyak, on the west coast of the island. Unlike hotels in Nusa Dua like the St Regis Bali for example, it is “in the city” even if it is visually isolated for the comfort of customers. But you can walk from the hotel to the bars and restaurants and not live in a cramped environment or depend too much on cabs.

As a result, compared to Nusa Dua recently served by a bridge over the bay from the airport, trips to Seminyak from the airport can be very long.

Arrival and Check In at W Bali

It was a car from the St Regis where I was staying previously that took me to the hotel as the transfers were included in the price of the room.

Guests staying in the villa are entitled to a different check-in than those staying in the main building.

I did my checkin on the mobile app but that doesn’t stop the agent I’m dealing with from getting lost in the paperwork when normally everything is supposed to be ready. Fortunately a welcome drink makes me spend my time. I am ahead of the normal time so logically my villa is not ready. Knowing the occupancy rates of W Bali it would have been surprising if they had a villa available in advance.

I was told to take advantage of the hotel’s facilities and that I would be notified when my room was ready. On the other hand I think that the agent was a bit confused with the process: he didn’t give me my room number so technically speaking no wifi, no possibility to take drinks to be charged to my room …. A nice little bug.

I’ll settle down in one of the comfortable sofas in the lobby and work a little, my Skyroam perfectly compensating for the lack of wifi.

After almost 2 hours of waiting my room is finally ready. Ironically I will learn about it by an automatic alert from the Marriott application while the Whatsapp message I was promised will arrive 10 minutes later.

Back to the check-in counter where I meet a different person. In theory it should go quickly since the formalities are done and the key should be ready. I already have the number of my villa in the application. But it will take another 5 minutes of doing I don’t know what on the screen and getting lost in the paperwork before I finally get my key and a buggy takes me to my villa.

The Villa at W Bali

At the W Bali the king product is the villa: there are nearly 90 of them I think! One, two or three bedroom villas, there is something for everyone.

Once you have passed the door, you arrive in an interior courtyard where you will find a swimming pool.

When you go in, you will find the bedroom.

IMG_2249

It is comfortable, spacious and there is no lack of taste in the decoration (sometimes at W they are at the limit of “too much”).

And no, this is not an ad for Cetelem!

The bedding is of high quality and very comfortable as always at W.

There is a very nice lounge area.

Behind the bed the desk.

Then you move to the gigantic bathroom…with a view on the courtyard.

There is a very large closet, very convenient.

As usual Bliss products are here…. for the last time because they will be replaced by Momo products soon. If I haven’t tried the latter, I’m sure I’ll miss the Bliss.

And finally the shower.

The whole is pretty, not overcrowded, bright, comfortable and tasteful.

In the room when I arrived one of the excellent W playlists was playing on the CD player. The excellent Bose sound system also provides sound for the pool area.

Last remark: while slipping into the pool I was surprised to find the water much cooler than at the St Regis. An employee of the hotel will give me the answer later: the St Regis heats its pools, not the W.

And to finish the visit in video.

For the rest nothing has changed compared to my previous article on the W Bali which I invite you to read again.

I also re-tested the hotel’s two restaurants, which resulted in two reviews: for the Starfish Bloo and the Fire.
