How Emirates disinfects its cabins for the Coronavirus

The airlines take the risks of Coronavirus infections very seriously, especially in the specific context of an aircraft cabin.

Here is the system put in place by Emirates

It requires a team of 18 cleaners on a Boeing 777, 36 for an A380. Every 24 hours, 248 aircrafts undergo this “treatment”.

The cleaning process includes complete wiping of all surfaces – of windows, trays, seat back screens, armrests, seats, interior controls, panels, vents and overhead lockers in the cabin, lavatories, galleys and crew rest areas. This is in addition to normal procedures such as changing headrest covers on all seats, replacing reading materials, vacuuming, etc.

Aircrafts suspected of COVID-19 undergo additional processing that takes between 6 and 8 hours.

The cabin is then completely cleaned and disinfected. For this purpose, a chemical is used that kills viruses and germs, leaves a durable protective layer against new contamination of viruses, bacteria and fungi on the surfaces of the cabin, and is also environmentally friendly. Air filters are also changed as a precaution.

And here is the video demonstration.
