Check-In and ground experience
After a three-hour drive from Debrecen, we arrived at Budapest airport. After having filled up the tank, I returned the car to the rental company Sixt, where the formalities were carried out very quickly. I then joined my wife who I had previously dropped off in front of the departure terminal, and we waited 30 minutes for the check-in formalities to open for our British Airways flight.
I took advantage of this free time to do the tax-free formalities at the counter located in the other terminal of the Budapest airport.
We then proceeded to the priority check-in line for London Heathrow, dropped off our five checked bags and were on our way to the lounge.
After having used the priority line at the security checkpoint, we arrived in the duty-free area, and proceeded to the immigration controls to access the non-Schengen zone. Everything was done very quickly.
Location and welcome
The lounge was located on the mezzanine of the terminal, in the non-Schengen zone.
During our previous trip to Budapest, we had already used the lounge partnering with British Airways, so we decided to use the other lounge. This one was also located on the mezzanine of the gates and is operated by Plaza Premium.
Access to this lounge is no longer possible through the Priority Pass program, as Plaza Premium has left this program, but American Express Platinum members still have access to all Plaza Premium lounges in the network. It is thanks to this card that I was able to access the lounge which was almost deserted during our visit.
Why ? Because this lounge is mainly used by Turkish Airlines and Emirates, who had no departing flight at that time.
The welcome was absolutely excellent, and we were invited to enter the lounge and settle wherever we want.
Lounge design
The design of this lounge was great, with an optimized use of the relatively small space that was available there. Relaxation areas were available, as well as eating areas, and even some private work areas that allow you to isolate to take some phone calls.
The decoration was rather well done, even if it is starting to date a little.
Catering
The catering was relatively limited when we arrived, but improved significantly as time went by, as the dinner offer was being set up when we left the lounge.
My wife and I will made a small selection, knowing that we would be dining onboard.
Too bad the curry was cold. The drinks were of good quality.
Bottom line
A very good lounge, that I will have pleasure to use again the next time I come.
