SAS Gold lounge in Copenhagen: the same old story!

The SAS Gold lounge in Copenhagen is reassuringly regular, but sometimes a little disappointing. If it’s as pretty as it is pleasant, we despair of ever seeing the food on offer improve.

It’s a 4-hour connection that I have to kill in Copenhagen before reaching Gothenburg, and while the airport is large and very pleasant, it’s also nice to be able to enjoy a lounge to pass the time. And it’s an opportunity to renew acquaintances with the SAS Gold lounge in Copenhagen, with its undeniable qualities and recurring shortcomings.

I’ll be stopping by three times in all on this trip, but I’ll spare you the other reviews, this one will be the only one.

You’ll find all the articles about this vacation in the United States at the bottom of the page.

Location of the lounge

It is located in the central part of the airport , where the duty free area is, almost opposite the police checkpoint at gate C. On the other hand, given how spread out Copenhagen airport is (inexplicably given its traffic), this doesn’t guarantee that you won’t be a 20-minute walk from your boarding gate (which will be my case with a flight departing from the far end of gates A, a 17-minute walk away).

Access to the lounge

The lounge is open to SAS Gold and Diamond members and all holders of Star Alliance Gold status on a partner airline.

SAS and partner business class passengers have access to the business lounge on the ground floor, while status passengers enjoy the Gold lounge on the second floor.

Please note: this is the only SAS lounge in the airport, and is open to both Schengen and non-Schengen passengers. Fortunately, it’s sized appropriately…

Lounge layout

When you reach the top of the stairs leading to the lounge, you’ll find a vast dining area with a buffet, which we’ll talk about later, and numerous tables dedicated to this purpose.

The lounge also boasts one of our favorite features: a barista

IMG_7275

To the side is a slightly more “lounging” area.

IMG_7279

Further on, a large, quieter room.

IMG_7278

On the side are more private areas for reclining and relaxation, and a meeting room enclosed by glass walls.

IMG_7277

If you turn back and walk through the restaurant area, you’ll find on the other side a number of work spaces that I’m particularly fond of.

IMG_7281

Further on, small individual besks insulated by curtains. I love working here between flights, and this is where I’ll be spending most of my connection time.

IMG_7282

There are also enclosed rooms for making phone calls.

Finally, a local touch: a light therapy area. As at certain times of the year our Scandinavian friends see little daylight, this space is designed to give them an energy boost and lift their spirits a little!

You can’t see it in the photo, but it’s really bright, and I’ve no doubt that it does a world of good in the middle of a Danish winter.

All in all, I really appreciate this lounge. It’s big without looking like a station hall, quite bright, very warm, in the purest Scandinavian design style, which I really appreciate. Pleasant and soothing.

Food options

In addition to the aforementioned barista, the lounge also features a buffet.

The cold offer is composed of salads

IMG_7286

As for the hot offer, on this day it was beef steaks or vegetarian steaks to compose burgers…without bread.

IMG_7287

There’s also soup, cheese and mouth-watering butter.

IMG_7291
IMG_7288

As for drinks, there’s the usual softs fountain, wine, beer and some spirits.

Qualitatively, there’s not much to say – it’s good. But it’s hard to fail at salads!

But in terms of variety, it’s disastrously weak. The salads are almost always the same, and the hot offer is not only famishing but desperately frugal (when it’s available). Simple steaks today, chorizo swimming in fat the next day, in fact you’ll never find a real dish cooked here (or in a SAS lounge in general).

Very inadequate for a lounge of this size at the airline’s biggest hub…a far cry from the plethoric offer in Lufthansa lounges.

Facilities

The lounge is equipped with showers, offices, telephone rooms and rest rooms.

Atmosphere

Calm despite the crowds.

Bottom line

A lounge that has a way of getting on my nerves, like all SAS lounges for that matter. A very successful design, a warm, comfortable and pleasant place, but a far too limited range of catering that borders on penny-pinching and spoils everything.
