Review : Fairmont Barcelona

As part of a conference organized by a software vendor partner of my business, I was invited to Barcelona and stayed at the Fairmont Barcelona, a luxury property located on the outskirts of the Catalan capital.

Here is my itinerary:

A look back on this pleasant stay.

Booking

I did not book this hotel myself, as I was invited by one of our partners. I discovered with (good) surprise the standing of the property when I received the invitation for the conference.

So this will be an Accor Live Limitless experience, which I don’t often get to do!

Arrival

The arrival at the hotel is a bit laborious, since it is done with buses from the airport, chartered for the guests at the conference.

Seen from the outside, the hotel does not look like much
Its size is quite impressive
The decoration of the atrium is quite simple, but the feeling of space is very pleasant

We arrive at the hotel shortly before lunch time. Conference obliges, all the rooms are reserved in a block, and the early check-ins will not be possible: we thus deposit our luggage in the luggage room.

The hotel’s gardens are beautifully maintained

However, just after lunch, I discreetly go back to the reception, and they tell me that my room is ready! I therefore carry out the formalities… On paper! Indeed, the check-in system is inoperative and they have to do all the check-ins manually… Poor guys!

The surroundings of the hotel are very pleasant

Everything is done with great elegance, my ALL Gold card is taken into account and after a few minutes and a credit card imprint later, I am in the direction of my room.

The lobby is rather nice thanks to the cosy spaces despite the immensity of the atrium
Numerous spaces allow you to have a drink, eat or simply work

Room

My room was located on the 6th floor of the property.

With this card, everyone knows you are Gold!

I’m not upgraded but I’m not surprised: with a group room block and the Accor program which is not powerful anyway, we shouldn’t have expected much.

The signage is perfectly clear
The atrium seen from the entrance of my room

The room is nevertheless quite spacious, for a standard room. It does not have a particularly nice view.

The spacious entrance to the room

The bathroom is a nice size, but I still prefer a shower to a bathtub, which is more cumbersome to use.

The bed is extremely comfortable, as is the desk which I will enjoy (and unfortunately insist on) using.

In addition to the design that I particularly appreciate, the desk is very large and functional

Finally, a video tour of the room:

Hotel facilities

All of the hotel’s facilities are accessible through a door located on the side of the property

The hotel has many facilities for its guests.

Entrance to the fitness and spa area, which is located in a completely separate building

A very pleasant outdoor pool is available at the foot of the hotel. Unfortunately it is not heated, so it will be for the brave outside the months of July and August.

The colors of the pool make you want to dive in… Too bad it’s so cold!
Difficult to take a picture of the pool without the sun’s rays reflecting in the lens

An indoor pool is also available, as well as a fitness club, all very nice and large. I will enjoy it many times.

Pathway to the fitness room
The outdoor pool has an overflow to the fitness room
Equipment of all kinds is in impressive quantity
The running area is nice and there is plenty of room

Food options

In terms of catering, the hotel’s options are quite qualitative. I couldn’t test everything because the conference had its own catering, but I did test the breakfast and room service.

Breakfast service

Breakfast is served in the hotel’s main restaurant.

The room is quite large, and the service is quite good.

A nice tortilla on the breakfast buffet

Hot drinks and hot dishes are served at the table, on demand and at discretion. Everything is included in the breakfast package, even hot food orders.

The breads are numerous and of good quality
… and a gluten-free section is available
The pastries will also be of good quality
In addition to the traditional waffle as a hot sweet item, we find the churros con chocolate, Spanish specialty
Funny to see the butter served at the buffet
Since we’re in Spain, charcuterie has a special place in the buffet.
Some cheeses complete this selection
Fresh fruits are well ripened
The usual cereals are present

The buffet is very comprehensive, and the elements are of very good quality, the Fairmont touch, no doubt.

Chef’s specialties are available at the buffet
The hot buffet is very good with these successful scrambled eggs and bacon prepared to perfection
Diversity is there and the buffet is very well run.

A great experience to start the day full of energy.

Room service

The catering of the conference being gone very quickly, I found myself hungry because arriving a little late at the cocktail party, all the large pieces were gone…

The presentation on the cart is perfect

As a result, I fell back on the room service menu when I entered the room, which was quite short but quite interesting. So it will be a very good tortilla, with a Catalan cream pie for dessert. Not very diety, but I did eliminate before at the gym…

Departure

As for the arrival, no late check-out, anyway I did not ask… So my luggage was left at the luggage storage. Fatal mistake, it will take me more than 45 minutes to get it back and I will miss a shuttle. Next time, I will ask for a late check-out, even if I have to pay for it!

Bottom line

At first glance, I would not have chosen this hotel for a Barcelona stay, but since I was attending a seminar and everything was done in the hotel, then the location was perfect. The service was just exceptional, you can see that Fairmont is in a different league compared to the “classic” Accor brands.
